Blessings

Last night the Agincourt Baptist Youth Group held their “Stay Golden III” event.  It was a great time of being able to watch these kids share their talents in the form of Spoken Word, Rap, Comedy, and Music.  They were even nice enough to let an old man accompany his daughter while she sang “Blessings” by Laura Story.

While the video will be coming soon (as soon as she or I get around to editting and posting it) it was a great reminder to us of the mysterious way in which God works.

As many of you know, my wifes father is in the last stages of battling cancer.  It’s been a tough week as he makes this final transition.  While we were rehearsing the song yesterday afternoon, I couldn’t help but reflect on the words and how applicable they were.  Bethany even made note of how meaningful they were to us as we watch Grandpa go through this.

Here’s the words, and I promise the video of Bethany will go up soon 🙂 but in the meantime, here’s the lyrics…

Blessings

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace comfort for family
Protection while we sleep
We pray for healing for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand
To ease our suffering
And all the while You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life
Are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness
We doubt Your love
As if ev’ry promise from Your Word is not enough
And all the while You hear each desperate plea
And long that we’d have faith to believe

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not this is not our home
It’s not our home

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is a revealing of a greater thirst
This world can’t satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain the storms the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise
