Dreams and Memories – Gifts from God.

I have to admit, I dream a lot at night, but rarely do I remember the dreams after I wake up.  When I do, usually the dreams deal with me saving the world in some form or another.  Guess I’m just a closet super-hero-wanna-be or something. 🙂

Anyway, last night I had a very vivid dream that I DID remember when I woke up and it got me thinking…

In the dream there was some sort of bike race or bike tour going on which I was part of.  Throughout the dream my family came and went, but the really weird part was the fact that somehow there was some kind of time-travel going on as well.  Family members kept appearing and reappearing at various time slices throughout our lives.  I even ran into myself (at a distance) from about five years earlier.  There was no “Back to the Future” implications of disrupting the future by interacting with the past in this dream.  It was like a weird family reunion of sorts.

The encounters that stick out still in my mind were encounters with my own kids (seeing them as younger versions of their current selves), and my wife (funny how even in my dreams she looks the same today as in the past, which of course is the same as reality!).  Some “other versions” were only hours before or in the future (yes, future versions were also in the dream) and some were years previous.

Also in the dream were past versions of my father-in-law and sister-in-law.  I remember interacting with them and being so surprised to see them and be able to talk to them.  I don’t remember what we talked about, but I had a sense we talked for quite some time.

Somehow, as vivid as this dream was, there was no sense of urgency or worry in them.  It was all very casual and while it was obvious that in the “real” world Morley and Brenda were gone, there was no sense of wanting to hold them back from moving on again when it was time to return to their own time.

Dreams are funny things.  I often wish that I had the ability to interpret dreams – especially the ones that are trying to tell me things I SHOULD be doing.  God often speaks to us in dreams.  I wonder if He was trying to say anything in this one.  If He was, I wonder if the fact that there was no worry was His key message.
