It’s been fascinating to watch the rescue of the folks trapped in the mine in Chile. At this point 16 of the 33 miners have been rescued. Watching the looks on their faces and looks on their family and crowd as each one surfaces in that tiny capsule as been a joy to watch.
But it’s the comments that have been made. The second one rescued, Mario Sepulveda, was quoted as saying “I think I had extraordinary luck. I was with God and with the devil. And I reached out for God.” From Fox new “The ninth, Mario Gomez, who at 63 is the oldest miner, dropped to his knees after he emerged, bowed his head in prayer and clutched the Chilean flag. His wife, Lilianette Ramirez, pulled him up from the ground and embraced him.”….” The operation started just before midnight, when a Codelco rescuer made the sign of the cross and was lowered to the trapped men.”
God has certainly been with these miners, and I pray that as the last half of the men are brought up to the surface that He will continue to bless the operations and the brave workers who are still down there and as well the four who have risked their own safety by going down to help the others out.

Update: I just watched #17 come up, and one of the first things he did was kneel to the ground and thank God with a Bible in his hand 🙂
